United Bank for Africa (UBA) is shaking up Africa’s digital payments scene as it unveils a next-generation Point of Sale (PoS) Terminal and a newly revamped UBA MONI App, both designed to empower businesses, boost financial inclusion and simplify everyday banking for millions across Africa.
As part of its Innovation for Progress: Empowering SMEs, Connecting Communities, Simplifying Banking campaign, UBA says it is rolling out these new solutions to meet the speed, reliability and transparency demands of today’s digital economy.
The upgraded UBA PoS is now offering a bold blend of convenience and intelligence. Business owners now get instant payment settlements, real-time transaction monitoring, pay-by-link functionality, and a 100% transaction success rate — features designed to help merchants gain trust and stay competitive.

But it doesn’t stop at PoS terminals. The UBA MONI App, the bank says, already a favourite among agent bankers, is receiving a major facelift. New features include instant settlement, pay-by-transfer options, secret question security, an enhanced inbox, and a slick new homepage—all engineered for greater speed, security, and usability.
Speaking on the development in a statement made available to Technology Times, Shamsideen Fashola, UBA’s Group Head, Retail and Digital Banking, says that the bank is doubling down on innovation to improve customer experience.
“At UBA, we are constantly innovating to provide seamless and secure payment solutions for businesses of all sizes,” Fashola says. “The new UBA PoS and MONI App is designed to empower merchants and agency banking with instant settlements, real-time transaction tracking, and unmatched reliability—ensuring they can focus on growing their businesses with a trusted partner.”

New features include instant settlement, pay-by-transfer options, secret question security, an enhanced inbox, and a slick new homepage—all engineered for greater speed, security, and usability.
Users are still accessing core tools like instant account opening with BVN/NIN, real-time transfers, cash deposits and withdrawals, airtime/data payments with agent discounts, and on-demand PoS deployment—but now with smoother functionality and a cleaner user interface.
Fashola explains that the transformation is part of UBA’s broader digital infrastructure push to support African businesses with scalable, trustworthy, and tech-driven solutions.
“This next-generation PoS is not just a payment device; it’s a powerful tool that helps businesses stay competitive in a fast-paced economy,” he says. “With the upgraded MONI App, we are equally equipping our agents, many of whom serve smaller communities, with faster tools, greater transparency, and an enhanced user experience.”
Alero Ladipo, UBA’s Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communication, echoes that sentiment, noting the importance of aligning with customer expectations in the digital age.
“We understand that speed, transparency, and reliability are critical for business growth, and that’s exactly what the new UBA POS and MONI App delivers,” Ladipo says. “At UBA, we are not just providing a payment device, we are offering a promise of efficiency, trust, and support to the thousands of businesses that rely on us daily.”
She wants merchants, agents, and business owners across the continent to take advantage of the upgraded platforms by visiting any UBA branch or the bank’s official site.
