Facebook, Instagram services restored after global outage

Services have been restored to Facebook and Instagram after the two social media giants were hit by an outage that affected users across the world, including Nigeria.

Dissatisfied users worldwide lit up the internet as the outage unfolded on Tuesday, with many expressing frustration over their inability to access the social media platforms owned by Meta.

‪According to X user, @Brian Krassenstein also said, DownDetector reported over 44,000 outages at 10:am and apps also appear to be affected.

During the outage, attempts to log in to existing Facebook accounts were failed, while Instagram users found themselves unable to refresh their profiles or homepages.

This resulted in users of the social interaction platforms going on X to lament the shutdown of the services.

An X user named Peace Ighodaro (@peace_igho) who tweeted, “Who logged us out of Facebook ooo” A New York-based user, Lidia Curanaj (@LidiaNews), also tweeted “Facebook and Instagram down” while a social media influencer in the Philippines, @RealRazziebinx, tweeted, “Is it just me or Facebook logged me out? I guess the world is ending.. see you guys.”

@RaphealMiguel posted a picture of relief with the caption “Me after checking on Twitter that Meta is just down and I’m not hacked since my Instagram isn’t loading and my Facebook got “session logged out”

Nigeria Sports photojournalist, @PoojaMedia also reacted on the shutdown saying, “Sessions of all Facebook accounts expired & everyone logged out. You have to log in again. Good luck if you still remember your passwords. 😭”

However, the servers of the two social media platforms owned by Mark Zuckerberg have now been restored.

However, for users to access their accounts, they are advised to open the app and input their login passwords again.

Now, after hours of downtime, normalcy appears to have returned to the digital realm, with users breathing a collective sigh of relief as they regain access to their beloved social media platforms.
