NordVPN, one of the best VPNs on the market, this week added cyber insurance to its top-tier subscription package in yet another step aimed at reducing the cyber protection gap and helping customers impacted by cybercrimes.
The NordVPN Ultimate bundle now includes cyber protection benefits without any additional costs. The insurance is covered by HSB Specialty Insurance Company, and it’s currently only available to customers in the US and the UK. These benefits come on top of its secure password manager NordPass and NordLocker, an encrypted private vault.
“While cybersecurity and privacy tools help to protect internet users from a technical perspective, human error remains an essential factor in cybersecurity, and no one is fully protected from scams. Especially considering that the tactics used by cybercriminals are becoming more sophisticated, even cyber-savvy users sometimes get tripped up. With cyber protection benefits backed by insurance in our product bundle, we aim to complement our technological solutions, bridge the cyber protection gap, and support our customers who were affected by cyberattacks,” Tomas Okmanas, co-founder and co-CEO at Nord Security, said in a statement.
For US customers, these benefits cover cyber extortion and identity theft and are available to all NordVPN customers subscribed to the NordVPN Ultimate bundle in the US with the exception of residents of Washington and New York.
In cases of identity theft, customers are eligible to receive up to $1M for expenses needed to restore their identity, including document replacements, credit reports, mental health counseling, and more. In addition, they gain access to a licensed identity theft investigator who can assist in correcting identity records and credit history, simplifying the restoration process.
Cyber extortion protection will help NordVPN subscribers facing payment demands related to threats against their online presence, data, or devices.This includes up to $100k for payments made in response to these threats, as well as professional advice and consultation.
For UK customers, the cyber insurance included in the NordVPN Ultimate bundle covers scam loss and online shopping fraud recovery. NordVPN subscribers in the UK can get up to £5,000 in reimbursement for transferred funds in response to a fraudulent phone call, text message, or email. They’re also eligible for £5,000 for services and items they’ve bought but never received from fake websites and trading platforms.
