One of Brazil’s largest retailers, Fast Shop, confirmed that it was hit by a cyberattack that disrupted much of its internal network. The incident was reported last week when the retailer was forced to shut down its online store temporarily.
The hackers also took over Fast Shop’s official Twitter account and posted a ransom message for the retailer’s followers to see.
Fast Shop, which sells electronics, furniture, home appliances, and makeup, said that none of its physical stores were closed after the attack.
“In the previous 72 hours Fast Shop TI and Cloud system have been undergoing an extortion attack,” the threat actors said in their ransom post last week. After gaining access to Fast Shop’s system, the attackers also claimed to have extracted a variety of user and corporate data.
“We are happy to negotiate with you to prevent the leakage of this data and to help resolve the issue,” they concluded in the ransom note.
However, Fast Shop eventually regained control of its Twitter account and immediately deleted the ransom message where the attackers threatened to make the stolen data public.
In a statement posted by the retailer, Fast Shop claimed to have found zero evidence of compromised customer data.
While Fast Shop also claimed that no personal data of shoppers was accessed, it added that customers who have an account on its online platform must perform a mandatory password reset and should consider changing the login credentials for any other platforms that share the same information.
Finally, the retailer said that users should also be on the lookout for unsolicited emails and phishing attempts.
