The popular cybersecurity company, ExpressVPN, recently expanded its suite of identity protections with four new features.
Normally, a VPN only encrypts your network data and masks your IP address. While it is a good tool for protecting your privacy, it isn’t enough to completely stop people from learning where you are or potentially stealing your identity.
That’s why ExpressVPN released a new batch of features aimed at providing comprehensive identity protection against hackers. This includes:
- Data removal.
- ID alerts.
- ID theft insurance.
- Credit scanning.
The data removal tool scours data brokers and people search sites for your data. Once it finds your information, it scrubs it from the site by submitting opt-out and data removal requests on your behalf. Finally, it monitors that website, ensuring it doesn’t re-post it without your permission.
ID alerts will monitor your most sensitive info, such as your social security number or bank accounts, and alert you to any suspicious activity. This way, if someone uses your personal data maliciously, you can stop them before they have a chance to take out fraudulent loans and credit cards, or worse, empty your bank.
Alongside ID alerts, ExpressVPN will offer up to $1 million in identity theft insurance, which will help you cover claims in case a criminal steals your identity. Without insurance, it’s significantly harder to recover stolen funds after you face identity theft.
Finally, the credit scanner will help US-based customers keep up with their ever-fluctuating credit scores by providing detailed reports on their current credit score and recent changes to it. It also offers credit freezing, so you can quickly react to unexpected changes to your score.
These features will be gradually introduced for ExpressVPN subscribers. ExpressVPN will roll them out to US customers before expanding the service to other countries.
