Cybersecurity company Bitdefender has released its 2024 Cybersecurity Assessment Report. The report details the various obstacles that companies face in a rapidly evolving cyber landscape. It also provides insights that companies can use to navigate key security risks.
Bitdefender interviewed more than 1,200 IT professionals across a large variety of industries. From March through May of this year, they interviewed a range of employees, including CISOs of massive corporations with thousands of employees and IT managers of small firms. Interviews were conducted equally between companies in the US, the UK, France, Italy, Germany, and Singapore.
Here are the key takeaways from the report:
- Concerns about artificial intelligence. AI is seeing a dramatic increase in the cybersecurity industry. More than 90 percent of respondents are worried about the role its taking and the opportunity for its misuse.
- Data breaches are rising quickly. 57 percent of companies report that the frequency of data breaches is rising. This year is a six percent growth over last year’s responses.
- Phishing scams are growing. Data shows over 74 percent of companies report that phishing scams are growing more complex.
- Companies don’t perform audits frequently enough. Companies that lack necessary cybersecurity infrastructure also tend to perform infrequent audits, dramatically increasing their risk of attacks.
- Cloud companies face unique challenges. Companies struggle with Identity and Access Management (IAM) and maintaining compliance with changing regulations.
- Workforce Pressure. Due to the growing pressure on IT professionals, over half of respondents are trying to find a new job.
- Growing regulations. 28 percent of companies answered that adhering to new strict regulations was their largest obstacle.
“The findings of this survey underscore a now vital approach to cybersecurity that layers threat prevention, protection, detection and response across all environments including cloud infrastructure, services, and supply chains,” said Andrei Florescu, president of Bitdefender Business Solutions Group.
