NCC website outage ‘caused by host’s downtime, not hackers’

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) website downtime which started last week was caused by its host’s “equipment outage” and not an hacking attack, according to the telecoms regulator.

The NCC website with official address on www.ncc.gov.ng, and that of the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF), a programme managed by the telecoms regulator with website on www.uspf.gov.ng, were affected in the outages that happened on Thursday.

“There was an equipment outage at the host’s end, which is being restored in a matter of hours. Some other corporate users were also affected. It is hyperbole to describe it as hacking,” Mr Reuben Muoka, NCC Public Affairs Director says at the weekend in a message to Technology Times.

Both sites are yet to be restored at the time of filling this report as efforts get underway to bring the high-traffic online real estates back on the internet.
