Calibration: Flow Meter Accuracy

Flow meters are the silent workhorse of many industries helping maintain process quality and accurate system performance.   Flow meters measure the rate and total consumption at which fluids flow, this can be in open or closed pipe work. Applications are vast and so are the industries, from oil and gas fiscal meeting to high purity pharmaceuticals production. More common applications can be found in food, chemical processing and the water networks which pump water across the country. Even the most modern sophisticated flow meters can drift from their original accuracy over time. This is where consistent and repeated calibration comes into play.

Shaping the Future of Marine Propulsion: Clean Alternative Fuels Require Fail-Safe, Compact and Hermetically Tight Pump Systems

In 2021, around 11 billion tons of cargo were transported by sea worldwide. This accounts for almost 90 percent of global trade and means that the shipping industry, which has mainly been powered by heavy fuel oil until now, is responsible for around three percent of global CO2 emissions. There are other pollutants as well, like sulfur and nitrogen oxides. When it comes to clean alternative fuels, liquid ammonia (NH3) is currently coming to the fore, but it is toxic to both humans and animals and extremely harmful to the environment. This is why the pumping technology used must be compact and low-pulsation, and also hermetically tight. Moreover it must ensure maximum operational reliability. To cover these requirements in different output ranges, LEWA is presenting its triplex diaphragm pumps in a new size at this year's SMM. With an hydraulic power  of 10 kW, the LEWA triplex G3E is the smallest of its kind to date and offers a low-pulsation alternative to single-head pumps in the medium power range.
