UMIDIGI, the Chinese smartphone maker popular for its pocket-friendly phones, has launched the UMIDIGI G6 5G claiming to offer the first infrared night vision on both cameras.

UMIDIGI is making a bold claim about the G6 5G’s cameras. In a video posted on its official Instagram account, the phone maker said that “this might be the world’s first phone with infrared night vision lenses on both the front and back.”

The technology, UMIDIGI said, allows users to capture photos and videos even in complete darkness. Most smartphones cannot face unlock or take photos without auxiliary lighting but the G6 5G smartphone has potential for low-light situations like night time selfies or security camera footage in poorly lit areas, according to its maker. The rear camera system features a 50MP main sensor alongside the 5MP infrared night vision camera. The front-facing camera setup mirrors this, with an 8MP main sensor and a 2MP infrared night vision camera. While video recording is capped at 1080p on the rear camera and 720p on the front.

What’s inside the UMIDIGI G6 5G smartphone?

In terms of processor, the G6 5G is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ processor, built on a 6nm process for improved efficiency which is paired with a 5000mAh battery. The phone boasts a large 6.57-inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate for smoother scrolling and animations. However, the resolution is capped at 720 x 1616 pixels (HD+), which is a point to consider for users who prioritise high-resolution displays.

The G6 5G comes with 128GB of storage and 6GB of RAM that can be virtually expanded to 12GB using software. It runs on the Android 13 operating system. Security is handled by a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and AI face unlock. The phone also supports Near Field Communication (NFC) for connecting devices, secure transactions, and exchange of data.

As the name suggests, the G6 5G is a 5G phone, supporting a wide range of bands for global connectivity. It also supports all standard network connections from 2G to 4G. Wireless connectivity options include Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.3. The phone is designed to be thin and light, measuring just 8.3mm thick and weighing 183g.  The smartphone is available in four colour options of Space Black, Nebula Purple, Lake Green and Glacier Blue.

The UMIDIGI G6 5G can be found on UMIDIGI’s official AliExpress store for approximately 180,000 Naira, excluding shipping costs. 

UMIDIGI claimed that at its price, its G6 5g offers users “outstanding value for money.”
