NASENI, Duns Field Farm tests solar-powered irrigation to boost agric productivity

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) said it has partnered Duns Field Farm to test solar-powered irrigation systems to find solutions to year-round cultivation and boost agricultural production.

Duns Field Farm participated in testing NASENI’s solar-powered irrigation system on their farmland to facilitate year-round cultivation, thereby contributing to address food insecurity and accelerating productivity in agriculture, the government agency said in a statement made available to Technology Times.

NASENI, through its Advanced Manufacturing Technology Development Institute (AMTDI), conducted the pilot as part of commitment to advance technological infrastructure and promoting innovation in Nigeria.

Mr. Khalil Halilu, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NASENI, who inspected the pilot on June 20, during a visit to the Institute in Jalingo, Taraba State, to oversee and assess the progress, pledged the support of the agency for the successful delivery of the project.

During the inspection, Halilu toured the institute’s facilities and expressed his satisfaction with the dedication of the AMTDI staff and their contributions to Nigeria’s technological advancement. He also pledged support from NASENI Management to provide all necessary resources for improved capabilities.

On his part, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications Innovation and Digital Economy, praised the initiatives of AMTDI, stating that “it is great to see the exciting intervention by NASENI led by my brother Khalil Sulieman Halilu, to support all year round farming. With these types of initiatives, we can collectively improve food supply in our country.”
